Review of Devil on My Shoulder by Alice Cooper

Devil on My Shoulder hits on almost every story in the original group’s history, leaving few stones unturned. It is very well-written and often refers to my book, Snakes! Guillotines! Electric Chairs!: My Adventures in the Alice Cooper Group.

Alice addresses the actual stories rather than repeating his highly entertaining enhanced versions that have previously been so dominant; therefore, those familiar tales have a fresh new twist to them. Alice also acknowledges some of the conflicting points of view of Neal, Michael, Glen and me, which is welcome.

The names, places and people are covered thoroughly, with many previously unheard insider details. Everything seems to land as it historically happened.

The business side of the Alice phenomenon is openly revealed, as are Alice’s previously secret feelings, the depth of which makes this book unique in the Alice world. The confessional character of those dark tales is as raw as it gets. The blackout era has been voiced in recent years, but Alice’s uncomfortable, candid honesty is so raw, it feels as if he is sharing the pain of his exposed nerves.

I’m sure you can tell that I recommend this book. It’s a great read, and you’ll forever see Alice in a more personable light.
